The Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is located between Rotorua and Taupo on the State Highway 5 and is the largest area of surface thermal activity of any hydrothermal system in the Taupo Volcanic Zone. Wai-O-Tapu means Sacred Waters.
