The landscape we paid for - the highlands
"The landscape we paid for", said our tour guide and he was right. Not less spectacular are the planes and swamps with its Peruvian feather grass (stipa ichu) at an altitude of more than 3000 m.
You can also see wild llamas and alpacas. If you are lucky you may also spot one of the rare hippocamelus.
The literal climax of this tour was the Pata Pampa Pass reaching an altitude of more than 4800 m above sea level. Some sources even state the altitude with more than 4900 m above sea level. There seems to be some confusion about this.
I can highly recommend that you take a bath in one of the hot springs in Chivay. It is just awesome.
