Arriving in South America and Lima
It is not very surprising but twelve hours of flight took its toll. However, flying over the Amazon river gave a first taste of what I had to expect in South America; not to mention the flight over the Andes and the approach to Lima. The view over the Pacific and the harbour of Callao during sunset is just awesome.
But the ride to the hotel is for Europeans a little bit of a culture shock: dirty streets, very dense and chaotic traffic, dwellings of the poor right next to modern shopping malls protected by private security guards.
And if you go for a stroll in Miraflores in the evening hours you can see the kids begging for some Nuevo Soles.
